Poker Tournament Benefits Kid's Museum

20 Feb 2006

Poker players raised $1,950 for the North Platte Children's Museum Saturday at the North Platte Country Club as part of a drive for the Skills for Success project. Thirty-nine players paid $50 each to participate in the Texas-Hold 'Em tournament. There were five top prizes including a championship bracelet donated by a local jewelery shop.

Five members of the Leadership Lincoln County class have started the Skills for Success project to help children learn etiquette, including how to eat in a restaurant, how to behave at a dance and how to introduce people.
Mike Dominisse, Jason Merz, Kathy Bourque, Rae Jeanne Swedberg and David Deturk will continue the project as a group, though whether future poker tournaments will be held to teach children gambling etiquette is unknown.

Sponsors of the poker fundraising event were Mid-Nebraska Physical Therapy and Sports Center, First National Bank, North Platte dentist Benjamin Lashley, Do It Center and AJ Overhead Door, who donated chamber bucks or store gift certificates to the winners. The UPS Store and Coors Distributors also helped set up the event.
